Brief Discussion about The Characteristics and Inheritance of The Lingnan School

Lingnan School is the best school after the Sea School,and its founders are Gao Jianfu,Gao Qifeng and Chen Shuren.In addition,second generation successors are Zhao Shaoang,Li Xiongcai,Guan Shanyue,YangShanshen etc..Lingnan School is the distinctive features of the lingnan culture to motherland,one of the outstangding culture of the Chinese traditional revolution.
Through the introduction of the below paintings,they embody the characteristics and inheritance of Lingnan School.
Gao Jianfu ,《Austral Piet》
1935,81cm x 36cm,In Hong Kong museum of art
The painting is about a poet holding a book back,reciting loudly.His morphology underfoot and his white dress is waving.We can see that the painting depicts a romantic charming man of refined taste.The background descripes the rising of the Moon and the falling of the fading leaves.It seems that it’s the time of the freeze and the Autumn night.Except the dress,the color of the background and the poet’s head is light.So it can not only foil the theme but descripe the mood of the poet and give the painting deeper implication.
Li Xiongcai,《After the rain》
1991, 136cm×68cm
The painting was finished by the painter in 1991.It’s a Chinese ink painting about the scene after the rain in lingnan mountains. Artist used the Jimo gimmick for times and use the deep or shallow black ink to draw the outline of the fresh air after the rain.In the painting the misty mountain is quietly elegant and the tree cascade like the the water-drop to drip.And under the small bridge the brook is running,in the bridge way an old farmer with a bamboo hat is crossing the bridge leading an ox.A few pen successfully brim over with life in the painting.
Guan Shanyue《Green Great Wall》
1973年，144.5×251cm
《Green Great Wall》,in the painting we can see the clear sunlight,the austral coast with luxuriantly green,and the seawater layers rolled up spray.The coast is the green shelter forest,and the towering casuarina waved by the wind with a mutual echo.It not only represents the magnificence of the motherland and shows people our socialist construction is in a prosperous new phenomena.The more significant thing is that through the description of these beautiful scenery we can feel the spirit of the working people and.Beacese the people use their both hands to cultivate up the green wall.
Gan Jianfu tried a new experiment of Chinese painting industriously for years,and eventually he created a new modern Chinese painting which has both national style and innovative sense.His painting is unrestrained,full of great passion and his style abundant strange.So he established his status of the father of the Lingnan School.
Through《After the rain》,we can see that on a deeper level,Li Xiongcai was good at landscape painting,because he was influenced by Gao Jianfu in the early years.Later he fused the traditional style and modern style,so he created a style of his own.His painting was famous for Burnt Ink landscape and kebi sketch.
And we can see from Guan’s《Green Great Wall》that he broke through the flat and high vision of traditional landscape painting.He absorbed the elements of western painting on perspective aspect with lighting effects.But he retained the lingering charm in Chinese painting simultaneously and combine western painting with Chinese traditional painting perfectly.
In conclution ,from the first generation to the second generation,we can see the inheritance of Lingnan School keep the marrow of traditional painting and create a new style with innovation,compatibility,revolutionary and advance.
