  范文一:

Teachers, good afternoon! My name is Chen Jing, the students of class * * * *, my thesis tohttps://p.9136.com/28pleted under Wang Zhiqin teacher of meticulous guidance, here, I express my deep appreciation to my supervisor, to the teachers to take part in my thesis express our heartfelt thanks to you for, and for the past three years I have a chance to listen to the teachings, teachers say heartfelt tribute.Below I will this paper design the research background, significance and main content of the teacher made a report, please the teacher criticism guidance.

First of all, I want to talk about the research background and significance of the graduation thesis design.

Since the Golden Notebook involves comprehensive themes such as colonialism, feminism, racism, communism etc. and due to its severely fragmented writing forms,it has intrigued groups of both domestic and overseas critics. The research abroad could be roughly divided into three stages. The first comes about the biography of the author”],the general introduction and reading background of this novel, then a number of explorations over the themes of this book have been conducted, from the most popular one feminism, psychological featuresto the philosophical elements^. Finally, critics shifted their concentration to the unique form or style applied by Lessing, for instance they analyzed the varied narrative techniques employed within ,the aesthetic value it displayed ,as well as its artistic nature generated by its messy forms. And it is worth mentioning that in 2006 Tapan K.Ghosh has composed a specific collection of reviews on the Golden Notebook. While the study over this novel in foreign country has been quite fruitful and mature, the research in China is far lagging behind, most of them just emphasized the novel's multiplethemes such as feminism,eco-economic,psychology and modemism Thus more angels should be discovered by scholars at home, such as colonialism, religious and psychological exploration, and their research method should be more diversified, for instance, the potential inter-disciplinary study of this novel are waiting to be excavated, and seldomhave critics compared this masterpiece with other similar text.

Based on Foucault's power theory, this thesis is going to explore how the female protagonist Anna in Doris Lessing's the Golden Notebook, the producer and victim of power, fought against her catastrophic life. Through a close reading of the text, this thesis aims at making a Foucanldian interpretation on Lessing's motivation behind portraying such a schizophrenic female personality, convincing the reader that power permeates every capillary of the society mainly by exerting influence on power relations between individual. Sinceeverything concerns with the functioning of power, be it tragedy or comedy, Anna's destiny cannot be an exception, instead of restraining from the one-way suppress from men,Foucault's power theory enables us to put the heroine into a larger, more diverse cultural or social background where individual's identity could be perceived with much more plurality or heterogeneity. Ultimately, given Anna's gender attributes, the application of Foucault's power theory to the analysis of heroine can shed light on how women could wittedly deal with their counterpart, strike a balance between freedom and restriction, and thus heading feminism into a more reasonable and rational direction.

Secondly, I want to talk about the structure and main contents of this paper.

The author is going to divide this thesis into five chapters. The first chapter is a briefing about the research background of the Golden Notebook, which provides an overview on the fragmented content and complicated structure of this masterpiece. The second chapter is an introduction of the research status of this novel at home and abroad, at the same time,Foucault's power theory will be elaborated here as the theoretical framework. Chapter three concentrates on the text analysis of the female protagonist Anna's pursuit of the free woman identity, which will be conducted mainly from three perspectives, namely her political faith, marriage and love, as well we psychological status. Through asserting Foucault's power theory into the text analysis, we could get a clear view on how the heroine became the victim of the omnipresent power in contemporary social organizations, and also how individual resisted power via making explorations on the genealogy of the self. Chapter four gives two different interpretations of Anna's destiny, with each representing the common feminists'view and Foucault's version respectively. Via such comparison, the author attempts to find a correlation between Foucault's power theory and feminism, to tell in what ways Foucault'spower theory have modified parts of problems in current feminism, and how the formal convergent with the latter. The last chapter serves as a concluding part in which a summary of this thesis will be reached, and limitations as well as further implications will be point out.

Finally, I want to talk about the deficiency existing in this paper.

The limitations of this thesis cannot be regarded as the challenge to the relevance of Foucaxxlt's theory to feminism; on the contrary, it tells that the value of applying Foucault'spower theory lies precisely in his invitation to feminists to remain highly critical about their previous prejudices as well as their future trends. In order to make full use of Foucault's power theory in modifying feminism, we have to dig out more convergences they share with each other. With the idea that knowledge and truth are partial ones serving as a start,Genealogy is then an excellent perspective for farther explorations on the Foucauldian and feminist projects.

  Thank you very much!

  范文二:

  Good morning,

Distinguished professors and teachers, ladies and gentlemen, thank you for attending the oral defense. (或Welcome to attend the oral defense.) :

I am Li ying . First and foremost, I want to express my sincere thanks to my tutor, Su-fang huang , for his intellectual guidance, invaluable instructions and comments on my thesis. It is with his valuable assistance that I have finally accomplished this thesis.

My topic is 《lost and reconstruction of ethnic identity -- from post-colonial perspective analysis novel the round house》.

The thesis consists of four chapters.

Chapter one serves as an introduction to Louise Edrich and her novel The Round House. It also gives an overview of her writings, achievements, and literary status. Then it mainly discusses the popular issue of identity construction that is well presented in Erdrich's novel The Round House, and the significance of an interpretation of the novel from the perspective of post-colonialism. The chapter also aims to bring out the objective of the research.

Chapter two has three parts. The first part provides literature reviews of Louise Erich'sworks from historical perspective, political perspective and narrative perspective respectively. The second part is the theoretical framework, introducing the development and mainframe of post-colonialism and with a focus on subaltern, hybridity and otherness. The third part illustrates the feasibility to study The Round House from the perspective of postcolonialism.

Chapter three, the central part of the thesis, analyzes the loss and reconstruction of native people's ethnic identity from three aspects. The first aspect is the gender identity.Under the white oppression, the native women suffer a lot both physically andpsychologically. The strong-willed native women use their own strength and efforts to confront the adversities, and realize the reconstruction of gender identity for their nation. The econd aspect is the religious identity. With the spreading of Christianity, native people are forced to discard their traditional ritual way. People nearly forget their traditional myths, which is a threat leading to the extinction of native culture. In the novel, old grandpa Mooshum uses his special way to pass the tribe tradition and myths to Joe. The tradition helps Joe to conduct justice. Contrary to the teachings from Catholicism, Joe kills the rapist with the help of Cappy and realizes their race's religious identity. The third aspect is racial identity. Due to the unfair and tangled law in the reservation given by American government out of discrimination and exploitation,Geraldine's attacker is away from punishment. Justice is being disgraced. On the one hand, Bazil Coutts,as a judge, constantly makes efforts on theway to justice in the judicial affairs in his own way. On the other hand, the round house becomes a symbol which supports Native people to keep on. This is one way for them to realize the racial identity for their nation.

Chapter four is the conclusion that with community love, native people can construct their identity and reclaim their subjectivity through the hybridity of both cultures. This chapter also discusses the limitations and the possible direction for further study on Louise Erdrich and her works.

  Thank you!

  范文三:

Good morning, all appraiser committee members. I am a f. o. &boli-bennett, my tutor is Chen. Her constant encouragement and guidance, I have finished my paper. Now, it's show time. You and I will work hard to welcome any correction.

The topic of my thesis is《 George Eliot “Middleton ma qi” of the female and female problems》.Here's the paper selected topic background.

George Eliot (1819-~1880) was bom as Mary Anne Evans, an English novelist, journalist, translator and one of the leading writers of the Victorimi era who developed themethod of psychological analysis. George Eliot is her pseudonym in the literary circle.

In January 1855 after eight-month-stay with George Henry Lewes from Germany back toEngland, her first article Evangelical Teaching in Westminster Review was well received, butconsidering the discriminative views on women critics in the mid-Victorian era,she used “theauthor of article No. 4as a code name to conceal her gender so that she could gaina fair treatment from critics. With the encouragement of Lewes and her distinct views onwriting, she turned to fiction in 1856, among which Scenes of Clerical Life is her first novel.

As a leading woman novelist in the late Victorian era, Eliot is a prolific writer in noveland poetry. Her works include seven novels including Adam Bede (1859), The Mill on theFloss (1860),Silas Marner (1861),^omo/a(1863), Felix Holt, the Radical (1866),Middlemarch (1871-72),Daniel Deronda (1876),poetry with The Spanish Gypsy (1868) asthe representative, translation of David Strauss' The Life of Jesus (1846) and of LudwigFeuerbach's The Essence of Christianity (1854) and other articles like Silly Novels by LadyNovelists (1856),Scenes of Clerical Life(l857),etc. when she worked as editor ofWestminster Review (1851-1854)。

As far as Eliot's writing style is concerned, she creates her fictional world out of herpersonal experience~a middle-and-lower-class rural England of the nineteenth-centuryMidlands. All her rich experience gives rise to her distinct writing features, which is highlypraised by Leavis in The Great Tradition:

Of the earlier novelists it was George Eliot alone (if we except the minor relevance of JaneAusten) whose work had a direct and significant bearing on her own problem. It had this bearingbecause she was a great novelist, and because in her mature work she handled withunprecedented subtlety and refinement the personal relations of sophisticated charactersexhibiting the 'civilization,of the 'best society,' and used, in so doing, an original psychologicalnotation corresponding to the fineness of her psychological and moral insight .

Leavis summarizes the writing features of George Eliot from two aspects. Firstly, Eliot's lifeexperience and her research into the Victorian society are well reflected in her works, whichjustifies for our study on the inter-relationship among her life, her feminine outlook and herfeminine characters in her works. Secondly, she specializes in ”sophisticated characters“ withthe touch upon the Victorian society and a daring trial on the psychological development ofcharacters.

Young called Eliot as ”moralist of the Victorian revolution . Undoubtedly Eliot'sdeep insight into human psychological and moral aspects symbolizes her mature techniques inhandling with characters, which,to a great extent, also greatly influences her successorsincluding Henry James, Joseph Conrad, and D.H. Lawrence, etc.

When it comes to her position in English literature,Leavis places Eliot “mnong threeother great novelists including Jane Austen, Henry James and Joseph Conrad.” He regardsEliot as “a great artist~a great novelist, with a great novelist's psychological insight andfineness of human valuation .” Lord David Cecil compares George Eliot with Jane Austenand says by way of explaining the phrase, it is this: that “George Eliot, being concerned, notto offer 'primarily an entertainment,' but to explore a significant theme-a theme significantin its bearing on the 'serious problems and preoccupations of mature life'-breaks with 'thoseftmdamental conventions both of form and matter within which the English novel up till thenhad been constructed?‘” In this way, Eliot's contribution to English literature and herphilosophy beyond the traditional realm for women cannot be neglected.

Middlemarch is a milestone of Eliot's mature works, which depicts a provincial life of avirtual town named Middlemarch in1830s with more than 70 characters in it Leavis callsMiddlemarch as “the only one book to represent her mature genius.” Virginia Woolfmakes- the following comments on Middlemarch:

It is not that her power diminishes, for, to our thinking, it is at its highest in the matureMiddlemarch, the magnificent book which, with all its imperfections, is one of the few Englishnovels written for grown-up people.

The political background of Middlemarch is concerned about the first Reform Bill in1832 of English history. This novel has won critical triumph as well as commercial success, which embodies Eliot's philosophy on life, women, reform and morality, etc. Besides, characters reflect the writer's thinking and passion. As Longinus points out,“The genius ofgreat poets and prose writers, as their passion declines, finds its final expression in thedelineation of character !叫。” So it is with George Eliot in her Middlemarch, Therefore, thefeminine characters in Middlemarch have something to do with George Eliot's outlook onVictorian women. What's more, her personal experience also contributes to the formation ofher distinct feminine views.

In this thesis, researches will concentrate on the feminine protagonists in Middlemarch tohave a relatively deep study of Victorian women and their women questions in the novel fromthe feminine perspective. During the process, the text intends to find out the interrelationshipbetween Eliot's distinct feminine views and her feminine characters. More importantly, thethesis will induce a relatively objective study on Middlemarch and its feminine characterswhen they tackle with their problems so as to find out both progressiveness and limitations ofGeorge Eliot's feminine views.

Next, it is an outline of my paper. In the main part of this paper, I divide it into six parts.

In the first part, the authoress displays the introduction of the thesis including theresearch background, research perspective and aspects as well as the purpose and significanceof the current study.

In the second part, the thesis shall give the definition of women questions and related keyconcepts in Eliot's writings.

In the third and fourth part comes the textual analysis. In the two parts, the text willfocus on Dorothea the protagonist to discuss the typical women questions in family andsociety and to look into how they deal with these questions from the gynocritic perspective.

The fifth part shall be a further exploration on George Eliot's views on women.

In the sixth part, the research shall come to the conclusion of the thesis as well as somesuggestions for further exploration.

OK! That is all. Thank you! Please ask questions.
